Day 03: Hike to Lukomir, highest Bosnian village and one of the last highland villages in Europe ( B, L, D)

Today’s walk will start from the traditional style Bosnian Mosque in the village of Umoljani. We’ll trek to

Seven Mills and the beautiful source used for centuries as energy to grind wheat into flour. We hug the

ridge until Rakitnica canyon awesomely opens up before us. After 5-10 minutes of going uphill, we reach

the Cascades of Studeni Potok. Here, at certain times of the year, the stream falls over more than 20

cascades 400 meters into the canyon below. En route, we’ll find a few water sources where we can fill our

From the Studeni Fields we hike along Obalj’s side. All along, you will be treated by sweet views and cool

breezes coming off of Visocica and Treskavica mountains. After a short break and cooling ourselves, we

begin our gentle ascent (200 m) to Gornji (upper) Lukomir. There is also a Donji (lower) Lukomir, long since

abandoned by villagers due to the destructive effects of avalanches in this region.

Lukomir is Bosnia’s highest village at 1,469 meters, with its ancient stecci (medieval tombstones) where

villagers stick to the “old way” of doing things. Traditional dress, the occasional turban and fez are still worn and go hand in hand with the more contemporary bliss’ of everyday life, electricity and running water. On the edge of the village you will be treated by a rare view of Rakitnica canyon, Obalj and Visocica mountain. Cows and sheep are sharing the life space here with the villagers on the regular daily bases. You have arrived at the end of the world. After lunch with the local family we will drive back to our accommodation .

Accommodation: Pansion Umoljani, Bjelasnica mountain

Meals: B, L, D

Day 04: Canyoning at Rakitnica River (B, L, D)

After breakfast we will take a transfer down to Glavaticevo, a small town on Neretva river in the South.

Today we visit Rakitnica canyon, one of the last explored canyons in Southeast Europe.

Canyoning consists of overcoming obstacles that river Rakitnica set for us – by swimming, jumping, walking, sloping etc. In some places canyon is narrow and barely wider than 1 meter and it reaches up to 800 meters. Water is clear and drinkable so you can see a river bed through the water despite the depth of

5 meters. We end the day close to Boracko lake, for a great homemade dinner.

Accommodation: Villa Sunce, Boracko lake

Meals: B, L, D

Day 05: Rafting in Neretva Rivers (B, L)

After breakfast we will take a transfer down to Konjic, a small town on Neretva river in the South.   Today we’ll have a fun rafting down deep down into the Neretva Canyon.  The Neretva river is the emerald of Herzegovina flowing over 100 kilometers from its source into the Adriatic sea.

In the upper canyon, which we visit, exists some of the most exciting rafting in Europe. Expect deep canyon walls, endemic flora and fauna, and a wild & pristine ambiance that only the Neretva can provide.

Our modernly equipped team are ready to guide first timers or old pros on a wonderful white water adventure.

This is a trip doable by all. The water is very calm during late summer, and the trip provides ample opportunity to enjoy the canyon and its unique flora and fauna. Neretva River Rafting is consistently a highlight of many trips to Bosnia and the Western Balkans.

At the end of the day we will drive to Mostar.

Accommodation: Hotel Almira, Mostar

Meals: B, L

Day 06: Mostar city tour and walk along the walls of Blagaj fortress ( B)

Day 6 Mostar city tour and walk along the walls of Blagaj fortress.

A short morning walk to the Old bridge and then we soak in the history the old town is radiating with. Wherever you look at a glimpse of the past pops up, either in the form of an old traditional Ottoman style house, or a mosque with gorgeous view on the old bridge or.. The bridge which, when built was the first single arched bridge of that size in Europe, will show us the way around the old town.

From Mostar we’ll continue to Blagaj, small sleepy town located at Buna river. Blagaj’s highlights are the Buna Spring and the adjacent Ottoman house/monastery. The spring here is amazing. It flows out of a 200m cliff wall and single-handedly creates the Buna River. Unsurprisingly, the Ottoman sultan was impressed, and ordered a Tekija to be built right next to it. This 16th Century house/monastery was built for the Dervish cults and is still one of the most mystical places in all of Bosnia & Herzegovina. This lazy

Herzegovinian town moves at a slow pace and many of its old structures are reminiscent of Ottoman days.

In the vicinity are also old flour mills that the strong Buna River used to power.

Here we’ll do some easy canoeing activity on the Buna river. On these hot summer days is great way to spend the day close to cool refreshment. Canoeing we’ll be followed by lunch break.

After the lunch, we’ll visit small town of Pocitelj. This oriental style town has recently been added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites and also hosts the longest operating art colony in southeast Europe. The most striking object in Pocitelj is the Sahat Kula, a silo-shaped fort that dominates the skyline from a hill above the town. It used to house watchmen and military guarding against possible invasion from the Neretva Valley.

At the late afternoon we return to Mostar, for easy relaxed evening which you can spend exploring the old town.

Accommodation: Hotel Almira, Mostar

Meals: B

Day 07: Free morning in Mostar and Sarajevo transfer ( B)

An easy day in the shades of Mostar, shopping or just enjoying a sip of Bosnian coffee while watching people passing by or diving  of the old bridge. After the lunch, we head off back to Sarajevo and another  evening in its old town.
