Discover Bulgarian mountains from the back of a horse; trek to the famous 7 Rila Lakes and witness the stunning views from the top; embark on a thrilling mountain bike experience; experience unforgettable sailing adventure in Lake Iskar-Bulgaria’s largest water reservoir and then continue to explore the country’s rich culture by visiting the capital Sofia and enjoy delicious farewell dinner.

  • Rila Mountain is a glaciated range, mostly granite, with spectacular peaks. The lower part of the mountain is covered with forests while the upper slopes contain vast meadows and rocky peaks. Panorama views are superb. The most visited places on the mountain are the magnificent cirque of the Seven Rila Lakes and the famous Rila Monastery.
  • Govedartsi is a village and ski resort in the Rila Mountains of Bulgaria
  • Lake Iskar is Bulgaria’s largest inland lake and can be likened to an inland sea, stretching for 15kms along the main Sofia-Borovets road, it is an impressive sight.
  • The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of lakes of glacial origin situated in the northwestern Rila Mountains in Bulgaria. They are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria.
  • Rila Monastery. The biggest and the most famous amongst all the monasteries in Bulgaria, it was founded in the 10-th century by St. John of Rila, and in the following centuries was the center of Bulgarian cultural and spiritual life. The Rila Monastery is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Day 1 : 27th July Arrival in Sofia, Bulgaria / Transfer to Borovets (D)

Welcome at the airport and transfer to Borovets summer and winter resort, located 1,15 hours away from Sofia at the foot of Rila Mountains.


Afternoon rest.

Welcome Dinner and Overnight.

Day 2 : 28th July Horse - back riding and easy hike along Beli Iskar river ( B, L)

Today you will enjoy horse riding and easy walking.

In the morning 2 hours of horse – riding in the area of Borovets. You could go to the Black Rock – a natural rock formation located above the Valley of Maritsa River. Standing on top of it opens a great view towards the higher, alpine parts of the Mountains. The planned ride is two hours, but if one is interested he could extend the riding by paying directly to the horse – base.

After we finish with the horse – riding we hop on the vehicle and transfer to the nearby village Beli Iskar (0,30 hours). It is named by the river that flows through its center, which is our aim for the afternoon. We leave the bus and follow the river upstream on the man-built eco trail. It is equipped with many wooden bridges, benches and summer houses. The trail is flat and great for a picnic in the outdoors. Together with the guide, you will discuss what lunch would you like to have and you will all make it / cook it together.

After your afternoon walk on the trail, you go back to the bus and transfer back to your accommodation.

Horse – back riding: 2 hours

Walking: 1 – 3 hours depending on group level and preference  

Day 3 : 29th July Rila national park / the Seven Rila lakes Hike( B, L)

Today you will do hiking at the Seven Rila lakes region and then enjoy the natural, hot spring pools in Separeva Banya town ( optional)

In the morning you transfer from Borovets village to Panichishte area in Rila Mountains (1,15 hours). Here we board on a chairlift which will take you straight to 2100m where is located the first lake and the beginning of the hike.

From here you go up and gently make your way through the circuit of the Glacial lakes. They are located on different altitude with the last one being at 2500m, so depending on your fitness level we either go to the highest one or at least to the fifth.

You do a round tour and go back to the starting point.

Optional :You can visit Separeva banya town – it is famous of its natural, hot spring waters and the only geyser in continental Europe. The water comes out of the ground with temperature 103 C and this is definitely the biggest advantage for the local people. They use the water for their every day life, but also as a way to attract tourists by building an open air mineral pool. This is where you stop after the hike with the goal to enjoy the healing powers of the natural hot springs.

Hiking time: 3 – 5 hours

Day 4: 30th July Mountain biking and easy hike around the highest peak on the Balkans ( B, L)

After breakfast embark on  mountain biking adventure around Borovets and easy hiking in the area of Mt Mussala (2925m)

In the morning you start with Mountain biking in Borovets. You go to the local bike shop to rent the bikes and the needed gear and to adjust it all. After that we do a short introduction and give hints if needed.


There is a lot of different option for this activity depending on the level of the group.


  • Beginners: Asphalt and dirt roads, with displacement of 250m and length of 8-10km.
  • Intermediate: Asphalt and dirt roads with displacement of 500-800m and length from 15km up o 30km
  • Expert: Dirt roads and single tracks with displacement of 800 – 1500m and length of 25-40km.


Besides that there is a mountain bike park in Borovets which offers 20km total length of routes, with four levels of difficulty, equally suitable for beginners and experts. For the most adventurous once there is a “downhill” track with a length of 2400m, 440 meters of displacements, equipped with step ups and step downs, north shore, few monster jumps and kickers. It meets the standards of the International Cycling Union, so different international races take place in the park.

The new feature of the park is the “family track” which is suitable for all ages and goes around some of the most beautiful scenic parts of the mountain.

After we finish with this we have a lunch in a place of your choice.


Later we catch the gondola lift from the center of Borovets which takes us higher in the Mountains at altitude of 2300m. We get off the lift at Yastrebets area, located in the alpine area of Rila, which means glacial lakes, jagged, rocky peaks and alpine vegetation. From here we get on the trail that goes to the top of the highest peak on the Balkan Peninsula – Mt. Mussala 2925m. You do not go to its top, but walk on the trail until the Mountain hut “Mussala” which is an easy, flat hike. Have a rest at hut, make pictures with the peak at the background and hike back to the gondola lift.


Short transfer back by bus to our accommodation.

Hiking time: 0 – 3 hours (we could get off the gondola and simply enjoy the view right next to it)

Day 5 : 31st July Sailing in Iskar dam and farewell afternoon in Sofia ( B, L, D)

Today experience sailing and then go to the capital of Bulgaria for some sightseeing.

In the morning transfer to Iskar dam (45min).

We spend 3 hours learning the basics of sailing at Iskar dam – the biggest artificial lake in Bulgaria. We will get to know how and why the boat floats, even against the winds; we will steer, we will set up the sails, and we will learn some nots and voice commands.

After we finish with the activity we could have a lunch in the local restaurant located at the shores of the Dam.


Later you get on the bus and transfer back to Sofia (1 hour).

After checking in the hotel we could do a walking tour of the center of the town in order to learn more about the history of Bulgaria and its present capital. Along the way we could see St. Sunday square, Statue of Sofia, Catholic church and Muslim Mosk, The old bath, The Largo square, Rotunda St. George – 3th century, Royal palace and the city garden, National theater, Rotunda St. Sofia, St. Alexander Nevski cathedral, National library, Sofia University and the National Parliament, etc. If not, the other option is to go for shopping.

Later in the afternoon we go for a farewell dinner in a restaurant in Sofia.

Day 6 : 1st Aug Departure Sofia ( B)

Today after breakfast you will transfer to the airport for your departure flight.

Depending on the departure time of you r flight you could go around the center of Sofia for sightseeing or shoping.
