With its eastern border complimented by the Caribbean Sea, the Yucatán Peninsula boasts ancient ruins, rainforests, underground caves, traditional hacienda and colonial cities. Bordering Belize and Guatemala, the Yucatán Peninsula maintains its close Mayan ties, observed in its inhabitants dress, language, religion and cuisine.

This 8 day itinerary starts and ends in Cancun and takes you on a journey through the fascinating Yucatan Peninsula. You will have the opportunity to visit the region’s most interesting archaeological sites to learn about the Mayans and their history in pre-Hispanic times; you will discover the lively capital of the Yucatan-Merida -a charming colonial city filled with markets, squares, and a bustling commercial center; enjoy the Mexican Caribbean coast, discovering beautiful beaches, swim with the Majestic Whale sharks.

Day 01: Arrival Cancun

Our representative will greet you in the arrival hall of Cancun International Airport. He will accompany you to your awaiting vehicle and introduce you to the driver who will transfer you to your hotel-20 minute drive from the airport.

Day 02: Tour to Rio Secreto with transfer to Chichen Itza with a short visit to Valladolid city at the end of the tour (B)

In this surreal locale near Playa del Carmen, you can observe natural history dating back millions of years as you hike and swim through a 600-meter route full of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Go deep inside an underground cave, where you’ll experience true silence among some of the most dramatic mineral formations in the world.

After 3 hour tour to Rio Secreto, transfer to  Chichen Itza with a short visit to Valladolid  City.  Valladolid a bustling Mayan city with a special colonial flavor. This is where you will see the majority of the townspeople still using the typical dress of the Maya and the buildings around the Main Plaza painted pastel colors. You will surely get a sense of the laid-back pace of life.

Includes: Admission fee to the natural reserve, bilingual guides, specialized equipment (wetsuit, life vest, special shoes and hardhat with headlamp), towel and lockers, snacks, guests also have access to our facilities (bathrooms, showers, hammocks, etc.)

Villa Chichén-Itzá is situated at the rear entrance to the archaeological site, within a small enclave of three hotels. Surrounded by tropical gardens and showered with the song of exotic birds, this cozy boutique hotel offers a dreamlike environment and an oasis for weary guests after exploring the ancient Mayan city.A walk from the Villa to the ruins takes less than ten minutes. In the evening, the same conveniently short walk will take you to the impressive light and sound show that is presented nightly at the site.

Day 03: Chichen Itza (B)

Embark on an early morning exploration of Chichen Itza on a privately guided tour with your expert guide. This site is world renowned for the sophistication of its structures and the high level of astronomical and engineering accomplishments. The site comes alive with the expert interpretation of your guide adding color and contour to the sprawling site. As the mid-day heat descends, head to Cenote Ikkil where you can opt for a refreshing swim. You will then continue on to Merida, the colonial capital of the Yucatan Peninsula where you can settle into your hotel.

Day 4: Private Biking Excursion to Acanceh/Homun Village (B)

Today after breakfast, you will meet your guide in the hotel lobby and be driven (30 mins) to Acanceh village, for an out of the beaten path biking expedition, away from the typical touristic route; in which your adventure begins with a 12.5 mile bike ride (approximately two hours) on a highway toward Homun village. At arrival, you will enjoy time to explore the small and rustic village and discover the natural beauty of Homun’s cenotes, here you may visit up to three local Cenotes for a refreshing swim and time to relax. Before heading back to Merida, lunch is suggested at a small, local restaurant serving traditional Yucatan meals (cost not included). You will then ride your bike back to Acanceh (12.5 miles aprox) on a guided route via the same highway and be driven 30 minutes back to your hotel in Merida for the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 5: Loltun Caverns and Uxmal (B)

Traverse the underground cave system at Loltún that shows evidence of the Maya civilization from the late pre-classic era (300 BCE-300 CE). A local guide will lead you through the cave, explaining the history and pointing out important stalagmites, stalactites, cave paintings, fossils and Maya hand-prints found there. Afterwards, your guide will drive you to the ancient Maya city of Uxmal to view the amazing Palace of the Governors, considered by many to be the finest example of classic Mayan Architecture.

Day 6: Private tour to Ek Balam site, en route to Cancun (B)

Ek Balam is one of the most important and ancient Mayan archaeological sites in the state of Yucatan.

Ek Balam is a name that comes from an ancient Mayan ruler in Spanish means black jaguar.

It was discovered in the year 1886 by the anthropologist Desire Charnay but was until 1984 when works began investigating in coordination with the Americans anthropologists and INAH, the site was open to the public 10 years ago.

Ek Balam its a walled city and has greats buildings, it is believed that the main zone lived 700 people between the rulers and kings and the surrounding area close to 25,000 people.

In the place you can see large stele with hieroglyphs and in the main building. The most important period of Ek Balam was the classic late 700 – 100 after Christ

Day 7: Swim with Majestic Whale Sharks in Riviera Maya (B)

Pick-up and Location: Meeting point to be assigned, around 7am

Duration: 8 hours

This is your chance to swim with the majestic whale shark, the largest fish in the world. You will snorkel alongside these gentle creatures for 2 hours taking in their size and beauty.

You will be met at a reassigned meeting place (time and location confirmed before the day), and will head to the marina from where your group will take a 1-hour boat ride to the natural migration route of the whale shark.

You will swim alongside the whale sharks that pass by this area. Despite their size, whale sharks are totally harmless to humans, consuming only large quantities of plankton.
