Live a unique lifetime experience: hiking the Salkantay trek to the ancient Royal city of Machu Picchu and explore Lake Titicaca. Connecting the city of Mollepata, Cusco with Machu Picchu, the Salkantay Trek is an ancient and remote footpath located in the same region as the Inca Trail where massive snowcapped mountains collide with lush valleys and friendly Quechua villages. The Salkantay Trek takes you through the Salkantay Pass reaching 4,600m at its highest point. You will start the trek hiking through glaciers and finish the hike down in the jungle. You will enjoy your private tour of Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and the most beautiful archaeological site of the Americas.
After enjoying Machu Picchu, you will visit the Quechua and Aymara communities while sailing across Lake Titicaca!

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Lima

Arrival Lima

Upon arrival at Lima airport, you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah guide and escorted to your hotel located near Lima airport.
Overnight in Lima.
*Lima city is located at an altitude of 80 meters (262 ft) above sea level.

Day 02: Lima city Tour / Flight Lima – Cusco

After breakfast, you will be driven to the city of the Kings where you will see beautiful monuments Colonial Palaces, Colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies, Plaza San Martin, Plaza de Armas, the baroque cathedral, Palacio de Gobierno (Governors Palace), the Archbishop’s Palace with its big carved wooden balconies, and the convent of San Francisco which houses the largest collection of religious art in the Americas. Underneath the convent lie extensive catacombs that served as the cemetery during the colonial period!

After the city tour, you will be driven to the airport to board your flight to Cusco.

Upon arrival at Cusco airport you will be transferred to your hotel located in the center of Cusco.
You have a free afternoon to acclimatize and adjust to the altitude.
In the evening, you will have your pre-trek departure briefing with your Inca trail guide.

Day 03: Cusco private City Tour

Free morning to explore Cusco at your leisure.

In the afternoon, your private driver and guide will pick you up from your hotel to show the beautiful Inca city of Cusco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; you will visit not only the most beautiful pre-Columbian buildings but also the wonderful Inca Ruins located on the outskirts of Cusco city.

Tour highlights: Koricancha temple, Cusco Cathedral, Sacsayhuaman, Q’enko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara.

Day 4: Cusco – Mollepata – Sayapata – Humantay Lake – Soraypampa

At 05:00 am, you will be collected from your hotel and driven for 3 hours to Mollepata (2900 meters above sea level) where we will stop for last minute supplies, leg-stretching or to use the restrooms. We continue driving to Sayapata, the starting point of our trek, here, we meet our support crew (Wranglers and horses), they will load the equipment on horses and mules. A round 9:00 a.m., we start our hike toward Soraypampa (3850 meters above sea level). During the trip we will have amazing views of the majestic Salkantay, other mountains covered with snow, and the Valley of Apurimac River. About 1:00p.m., we will have a Peruvian lunch. After lunch, we will continue hiking toward Humantay Lake for 3 hours approximately; this is a beautiful lake in the mountains nearby our camp site in Soraypampa.

Day 5: Soraypampa - Challway

Today, nature will change drastically from dry sceneries to snowy peaks and tropical areas. After a nutritious breakfast, we will start the most difficult part of the trek. We will start the hike around 7:00 in the morning. We will hike to a place called Pampas Salkantay, then go toward the left side of the snowy peaks of Umantay located next to the Apu Salkantay. At midday, we will be on the highest point (4600 meters above sea level). We will appreciate spectacular views of the mountains and the imposing snowy peaks of the Salkantay (6264 meters above sea level) which is known as the second highest point of the Cusco region. Around 1:00 p.m., we will have our lunch, in the area called Huayracmachay. After a trek of approximately 3 hours, we will arrive at our camp site in Challway (2920 meters above sea level).

Day 6: Challway – La Playa – Aguas Calientes

Around 5 AM, we will start our trek and enjoy the beautiful sunrise. We will walk for about 5 hours toward Playa Sahuayaco and during this period; we will observe a town called Collpabamba, also called the “Forest Cloudy Brow” where waterfalls, fruit-bearing trees, varied flora, and birds can be observed. Once at Playa Sahuayaco, we will take a local bus to drive us to the hydroelectric train station. At around 1:30p.m., we will have our lunch at the hydroelectric. We will take a train from the hydroelectric to the town of Aguas Calientes (2000 meters above sea level). Here, you have the option of going to the thermal hot springs. We will have dinner at 7:00p.m.

Day 7: Sun gate - Machu Picchu

After a very early wake up, we board the bus to Machu Picchu and hike to Inti Punku (The Sun Gate) where we rewarded with the most beautiful view of Machu Picchu!

Finally, we achieve our goal! We reach Machu Picchu and feel that all the great effort we put up during our hike was worth it.

We have a guided tour of this impressive Inca city and learn about the history of this site, who lived here, how it was discovered in modern times and why the Spaniards never found it.   You will have some insight into the various features of this sacred city and have free time to really enjoy yourself alone in this spectacularly located site, an unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever!

12:30 p.m. Buffet lunch at Tinkuy Restaurant located at the Sanctuary Lodge.

P.m. Bus journey to Aguas Calientes

Day 8: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu / Machu Picchu- Cusco

07:00 am: climb Huayana Picchu Mountain.

13:00 Lunch in Aguas Calientes

Afternoon train journey on board the Vista dome train from Machu Picchu to Cusco.

Upon arrival at Cusco train station, you will be driven to your hotel.

Day 9: Whitewater rafting on the Urubamba River

This morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven through the sacred valley to Cusipata, the upper part of the Urubamba River; here you will have a safety briefing and instructions before you set off for a 2 ½ hour whitewater rafting adventure on the Incas’ river. At noon you will have a picnic lunch then you will be driven back to Cusco.

Day 10: Flight Cusco – Juliaca (Puno

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Cusco airport to board the flight to Juliaca.
Upon arrival at Juliaca airport you will be driven to your hotel located in the center of Puno.

Day 11: Lake Titicaca Tour

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Puno pier to start your adventure in the world’s highest navigable lake. You will travel by speed boat to the floating islands of Uros, this group of more than forty islands are inhabited by pre-Incan families, who are known as the sons of the sun. Your adventure continues across the lake! You will visit Taquile Island where you see how these Quechua people live now, maintaining their lifestyle as it has been for centuries. After lunch, you will board the speed boat to return to Puno city.
Upon arrival at Puno pier you will be driven to your hotel.

Day 12: Flight Juliaca – Lima/ Departure

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Juliaca airport to board your flight to Lima.
You will be driven to the airport to board your international flight.
