Slovakia is a small but captivating country in the heart of Europe, nestling cozily between the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, the Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south.

Based in High Tatras, Slovakia´s highest mountains, we enjoy a week pack with great activities including cycling, rafting and hiking. We also visit number of UNESCO sites, including Spissky Castle, the biggest castle in Eastern Europe, medieval town of Levoca with the highest wooden alter in the world. Unforgettable experience is also a visit to the Dobsinska ice cave – UNESCO and exploring the national parks of Pieniny and Slovak Paradise. This trip has it all!

Day 01: Arrival in Bratislava, Slovakia ( D)

Today you will be welcomed by Bratislava, Slovakia’s capital and the former coronation city of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Aftrernoon an introductory briefing.

Optional:  we enjoy a guided tour through the charming old town including Bratislava Castle with its four towers, situated on a hill above the old town offering stunning views over the Danube river. Next we enjoy Michalska Brana gate, entrance to the old, picturesque streets, surrounded by baroque architecture, including the famous Grassalkovichov Palace, home of the Slovak President.

In the evening we will enjoy a welcome dinner in a cosy restaurant located in the Old Town.

Day 02: Transfer to High Tatras, Slovakia (B, L, D)

Today we enjoy a scenic transfer to the greatest mountains of Slovakia and indeed of the entire Carpathian range.

En-route we stop in the village of Cachtice, where we visit the ruins of Čachtice castle. In the legend of the bloody countess Elizabeth Bathory, it was said she used to bathe in the blood of virgins in the belief that it would keep her young and beautiful forever. The next stop will be in the mountain village of Vlkolinec (wolves place), where we can admire this amazing UNESCO village famous for its beautiful wooden and decorated log houses. En-route we also enjoy a lunch in a traditional Slovak restaurant before reaching the High Tatras, Slovakia´s greatest mountains and the highest mountains of the entire Carpathian range. Evening is free before enjoying a traditional dinner in one of the local authentic restaurants knows as KOLIBA.

Day 03: Waterfalls of Studeny Potok and Skalnate Pleso Lake ( B, L, D)

This morning we enjoy a cable car ride to Skalnate Pleso (Rocky Lake) 1751m, one of the most visited places in the Tatras, below the majestic Lomnicky Peak (2634 m.), the second highest peak of the country. Here we find a small mountain lake and an observatory, our starting point of a popular Tatranska Magistrala trail, along which we enjoy countless stunning views over the villages and settlements below us, mountain huts and the impressive cascading waterfalls of Studeny Potok. We conclude our walk by a pleasant funicular cable car ride from Hrebienok (1285 m.) down to Smokovec, the oldest settlements in the Tatras.

Day 04: Dobsinska ice cave, medieval town of Levoca and Spissky Castle ( B, L, D)

After refreshing breakfast we head to the national park of Slovak Paradise where we visit the incredible DobsinskaIce Cave, UNESCO site. Set at 970m altitude, this is a natural phenomenon. The ambient temperature never climbs above 0, leading to the creation of ice formations, stalagmites and stalactites. Known locally for centuries as the ‘Cold Hole’ the cave opened to the public in 1870 and has been enthralling visitors ever since. After the visit we then head on to the mediaeval town of Levoca where we can have lunch before heading to the ruins of Spis Castle, the biggest castle in Eastern Europe set right in the heart of the rural Slovakian hinterland. The castle has been beautifully restored and is a great place to explore and let imaginations get to work. Following our visit we then return back to our hotel.

Day 05: Downhill ride to Kezmarok ( B, L, D)

This morning we take a short transfer to the heart of the Levoca mountains where our cycling adventure begins. A 15 km / 9 miles easy downhill ride to the ancient town of Kezmarok, following our amazing trail connecting Levoca and Kezmarok, a route used by the Red Amy during communist times. Today the beauty of the Levoca Mountains, Levocska Dolina valley and other attractions are magnets for tourists. This densely populated area, with beautiful nature together with mystery and legends is also home to very rare fauna and flora, including all of the large predators such as the brown bear, the Carpathian wolf and lynx. After lunch we enjoy a spot of sightseeing in the historical town of Kezmarok with its beautiful preserved castle. In the late afternoon we return back to Levoca.

Day 06: Walking in the national Park of Slovak Paradise ( B, L, D)

Today we explore one of the most beautiful areas of the national park of Slovak Paradise by foot. A real paradise for nature lovers and home to the highest concentration of gorges and canyons in the entire Carpathian arc and perhaps in the whole of Europe. Prielom Hornadu canyon is almost 12 km long and walking through its passages is an experience of a lifetime. An area of more than 350 caves, the most famous of is the Dobsinska Ice Cave, a world heritage site. Providing the highest level of biodiversity in Europe, the Kopanecke meadows contain up to 75 types of flowers per square metre during the summer months, and is also home to more than 2000 butterfly species. Today´s route will also take us to the ruins of the Carthusian monastery, located in the heart of the national park, where we will learn about its amazing history. In the late afternoon, we return back to our hotel.

Day 07: Rafting and cycling in the national park of Pieniny ( B, L, D)

This morning we head to the national park of Pieniny, where we explore its most attractive parts, including the Dunajec Gorge, one of the longest canyons in Europe forming a natural border with Poland. Our adventure starts with a visit to the monastery of Cerveny Klastor, dating back to the 14th century where we will learn about its history. We then head to the Dunajec river to enjoy traditional rafting on wooden rafts, where we can admire the stunning nature of the Pieniny national park. Don’t worry this is not whitewater rafting but a relaxing jaunt so no need to be an expert rafter, although one should be able to swim.

Afterwards, lunch in a traditional restaurant before hiring bikes and cycling (9 km) back to Cerveny Klastor following the bank of the river. In the late afternoon we return back to our hotel.

Day 08: Transfer to Bratislava ( B, L, D)

After breakfast we transfer back to Bratislava for our final night in Spectacular Slovakia, one of the most mountainous and authentic countries in Central-Eastern Europe. En-route again we have the option to stop at several very attractive places such as:

Oravsky Castle: the very first Dracula movie was filmed here.

Bojnicky Castle: the most romantic castle in the whole of Slovakia

Terchova: a mountain village and the birth place of Slovakia´s very own Robin Hood. There is also the option to experience an impressive walk through the Janosik´s canyons full of waterfalls and rocky formations (stunning!!!)

The village of Cicmany: a very authentic village with decorated log houses
