The Big Heart Campaign is a massive campaign that aims to support Syrian children refugees who escape their homeland having nothing at all. It was launched by HH Shaikha Jawaher Al Qasimi in her capacity as the Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children for the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) on June 20 2013.
''While climbing Kilimanjaro is an exciting adventure for many, for me it is a personal challenge and journey. As a mother, it pains me to know that the conflict in Syria has rendered many children helpless. 4-year old Shahad, a Syrian refugee girl in Lebanon, had to be rescued from the rubble with her face lacerated and curls torn from her skull. Shahad was saved. Unfortunately, she lost her 10-year-old brother Jasim and 2-year old baby sister Aya.
Despite the fact that the training for this climb is both mentally and physically grueling, it is nothing compared to what children like Shahad continue to endure.
This climb is an opportunity to shed light on the misery of Syrian children like Shahad, Jasim and Aya. I hope you join me in raising awareness and funds through The Big Heart (TBH) Campaign for Syrian Refugee Children launched by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Eminent Advocate. I am pleased to be embarking on such a challenge under the guidance of Suzanne Al-Houby, the first Arab woman to summit Everest and to reach the top of Kilimanjaro six times."
