Itinerary Details

Upon arrival at the airport of Tirana airport, you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah representative, and you will be transferred to Shkoder (approx. a 1.5-hour drive).

Shkoder is one of the most ancient cities in the Balkans: a medieval town with a rich history which, throughout the centuries, has retained its metropolitan status thanks to its strategic position close to thetrade routes of the land and sea.
Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the city, before the group reassembles for dinner and a briefing with your guide.

The next two days will be spent on the mountains, so you will carry only the necessary gear, while the rest of your luggage will be transferred directly to Montenegro.

Accommodation: 4-star hotel in Shkoder.

After an early breakfast, you will head to the village of Theth in the Prokletije Mountain (approx. a 3-hour drive). The ride is an adventure by itself, as the road is very narrow and in bad condition.

Theth is the starting point of your hike, and from there, you will head to Valbona (1,800 m altitude), a village in the Valbona Valley National Park in the Albanian Alps of northern Albania. The path is also known as “the Peaks of the Balkans”and takes you through stunning landscapes and scenery.

Hiking distance: 14 km.
Hiking duration: around 6-7 hours.

Overnight in a mountain house or private lodge.

After breakfast, you will continue your hiking adventure, as the trail takes you across the mountains into Montenegro. Since you will not pass through the regular border, Crossing-Over-Mountain permissions will be prepared in advance. On the way, you will stop for lunch (packaged), having the opportunity to take a few more pictures of the landscape.

The trail is a challenging hike, but, at the same time, its beauty is renowned. Valbona Valley (in Albania) and Ropojana Valley (in Montenegro) have been competing since time immemorial as to which is the most beautiful one – we wonder which one you will choose! Your trip will end at the borders of the Prokletije National Park.

Hiking distance: 17 km.
