Itinerary Details

Upon your arrival at Kota Kinabalu Airport, you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah representative, and you will be transferred to the hotel.

Note: Only one group transfer from the airport to the hotel is included in the price. Additional transfers can be arranged at an extra cost.
It is recommended that you take the Malaysian Airlines flight 2646 from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, departing at 11:15 and arriving at 13:50.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing, or exploring the town at your own pace, before the group re-assembles in the evening for a welcome dinner.

After an early breakfast, you will head to Keningau town (a 2-hour drive). Upon arrival there, you will change to a 4×4 vehicle and continue towards Labang village, from where you will catch a boat to Pungiton Camp.

After lunch, you will embark on a short hike to explore the secluded Tinahas Caves, where you will go through caverns with an underground stream and beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations.

Later in the afternoon, you will return to the camp for a refreshing swim in the river and a delicious dinner surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Duration of the caving activity: approx. 1-2 hrs.

Accommodation:Pungiton Camp or similar, Orou Sapulot.
Pungiton Camp: a basic but very comfortable camp perched high up on the riverbank, equipped with western toilets and showers, dining and sleeping areas. You will sleep on stretcher hammocks with full bedding and mosquito netting.

After an early breakfast, you will check out of the camp and head to Tataluan, the starting point of your excursion to Batu Punggul: a240-meters limestone that risesthrough the jungle. The most adventurous ones may choose to climb to the top of Batu Punggul to enjoy the magnificent views of the forest from above, while the rest can relax, swimming in the river. Climbing Batu Punggul is quite challenging, so you should have a medium fitness level and no fear of heights.

Estimated hiking time up and down Batu Punggul: 2 hrs.

After lunch by the riverbank, you will head to Romol Village where you will settle into a modernly equipped longhouse sitting above the valley,with amazing views of the forest. Enjoy the evening feasting on the Murut cuisine and having fun with some local dancing.

Accommodation: Romol Modern Longhouse or similar, Orou Sapulot.
Romol Modern Longhouse: a comfortable family home, equipped with western toilet and showers. Sleeping is in a communal room with mattresses on the floor and full bedding.

Once again, you will wake up early, this time to visit the Hidden Kabulongou Waterfall, enjoying some trekking on the way. After a few hours of swimming in the multi-leveled waterfalls and relaxing with some light refreshments, you will return to Romol for lunch, before bidding goodbye to the Sapulot region and heading to Keningau. There, you will meet the driver and return to Kota Kinabalu with the car. You should expect to arrive to the town at around 5:00pm.

After a very early breakfast, you will check-out of the hotel and head to the airport for your domestic flight to the east coast of Sabah: Sandakan.

Domestic Flight MH2042from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan via Malaysia Airlines:
Departure: 07:15 am,Arrival: 07:55 am.

Upon your arrival, you will embark into a half-day exploration of the Sepilok-Kabili Forest Reserve area. You will first stop at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to observe the morning feeding, followed by a visit to the Sun Bear Conservation Center nearby.

The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (SORC) is perhaps the biggest attraction in the region and, above all, a major environmental initiative. It was founded in 1964, within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, to help the rehabilitation of orphaned, injured or displaced orangutans into the wild. Connecting with these beautiful and highly intelligent primates is a life-changing experience and will possibly be the highlight of your trip. During your visit, you will learn many details about their life, the sophisticated tools they use and the sleeping nests they build, and you will gain awareness about the challenges they face and what steps are being taken to overcome them.

After this educational and emotional experience, you will head to Sukau village (a 2-hour drive), from where you will take a short boat transfer to the lodge by the Kinabatangan River.

Kinabatangan is the second-longest river in Malaysia and is famous for its exceptional biodiversity. Consisting of five distinct habitats – waterlogged and dry forests, saline and freshwater swamps, and limestone habitats – the lower Kinabatangan has one of the most diverse concentrations of wildlife in Borneo. Expect to see proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, langurs, gibbons, many species of birds, and of course the iconic Bornean pygmy elephants and orangutans.

After lunch and some relaxation, you will enjoy a river cruise in search of wildlife, and you will return to the lodge by sunset for dinner.
After dinner, you may choose to explore the region by night, engaging in an optional night walk or cruise (at additional cost: the night cruise costs 75RM per person for a group of min. 2 people).

Borneo Nature Lodge Twin Chalet: All rooms have a twin-bedding setting, electricity 24/7 via generator and solar panels, A/C& fan, cold & hot shower;Internet and Wi-Fi at the reception area.

You will wake up very early in the morning with the songs of the birds, and the sounds of the surrounding jungle life. At 6:00 am, you will embark on a cruise along the Kinabatangan River and into the Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake, where you will stop for a short walk in the Borneo wilderness before returning to the lodge for breakfast.

You will spend the rest of the day relaxing at the lodge, and exploring the nearby villages, before another cruise in the afternoon, that will offer you more opportunities to delve into the mysteries of the jungle.

After dinner, you can continue your explorations with an optional night walk or a cruise (additional cost applies: the night cruise fees amount to 75 RM per person for a group of min. 2 people).

After breakfast, you will depart from the lodge at 9 am towards Sandakan for your departure flight back home.

  • One group airport transfer is included in the price (note that it takes 2 hours to reach Sandakan from Sukau). Additional transfers can be arranged at an extra cost.
  • It is recommended that you depart with the Malaysia Airlines flight MH2711 leaving Sandakan at 14:10, arriving at Kuala Lumpur at 17:00.
