Upon arrival at Santa Marta Airport, a local Rahhalah representative will meet you for the transfer to your hotel in Santa Marta.

The Ciudad Perdida is part of an archaeological complex that harbors the heritage of the four people descendants from the Tayronas: the Wiwas, Kankuamos, Arhuacos and Koguis. All of them are still inhabiting the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta territory which is considered by them as the center of the world and a sacred land. The archaeological complex is composed by more of 250 terraces with inhabited areas dated from 650 A.D., which is almost 800 years older than Machu Picchu, according with the last discoveries.

The ruins share the space with habited indigenous villages and with breathtaking natural surroundings, which gives this adventure a unique cultural and natural add-on that is hard to find in other parts of the world.

The adventure, that has a total of 42 Km. trekking circuit (round trip) starts with a 3 hours ground transfer from Santa Marta to the small town of Machetepelao where after lunch, we begin walking to our first stop in Adán’s camp (base camp to Ciudad Perdida). It will be about 7,6 Km. trekking, ascending to 45 m.a.s.l.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will depart from the camp of Adam to the camp of Gabriel in a stage that will be 8.1 km (approximately 4 hours), ascending to 470 m.s.n.m.

On the way we will pass through the Indigenous village of Mutianyu, where the guide will share interesting aspects about the history and daily life of the more than 3,000 indigenous descendants of the Tayrona and belonging to the Arhuaco, Kogui, Wiwa and Kakuamo communities that inhabit the area. After lunch, enjoy a relaxing dip in the Buritaca River in the afternoon or contemplate the mountainous landscape while sipping a cup of locally grown coffee.

During the morning we will approach the Rumualdo Camp, the last one before doing the final ascend to Ciudad Perdida. The walk will be 6.5 kilometers and we will ascend to 900 m.a.s.l. (5 hours approximately).

As we ascend, human settlements are less making the landscape more and more pristine and stunning. We will also have more chance of observing animal species such as hummingbirds, butterflies, small mammals and reptiles, as well as enjoying a cool bath in the Buritaca River.

We will leave very early from Rumualdo’s Camp for beginning the final approach of about 1 hour to Ciudad Perdida. After ascending the almost 1.200 steps, we will witness the mystical terraces that show the fantastic hidden vestiges in the mountain, as well as impressive views over the forest. After a three-hour visit to the archaeological site, we will walk back to Rumualdo’s for lunch before continuing to Gabriel's camp to again enjoy there the fresh waters of the Buritaca river and spend the night. It will be about 8 km. walking in total, ascending near to 1.200 m.s.n.m.

We will leave early from Gabriel's camp to start walking towards Machetepelao at 15.6 Km. The walk will be approximately 7 hours, most of it downhill, ending with lunch in that small town to continue with the land transfer to Santa Marta airport (approx drive 2 hours)

Note: Departure flights should not be before 9 pm, although we highly recommend staying an extra night in Santa Marta to get a shower & wash off your tiredness from the trek!
