Itinerary Details
In the morning, you will fly from Quito (on the Ecuadorian mainland) to Baltra Island, in the heart of the Galapagos archipelago and the main point of entrance to this natural paradise. Upon your arrival at the airport, you will need to pay the national park entry fee, which goes to protecting both the Galapagos National Park and Marine Reserve.
Before hoping to Isabela Island, the largest island in the archipelago, and where most of the volcanic activity in the Galapagos is reported, we will take a 30-minute propeller plane flight, it has a capacity of 9 people, but the best thing is that this flight offers amazing panoramic views of the islands from above! So, get your cameras ready. The island was formed by six shield volcanoes, Alcedo, Cerra Azul, Darwin, Ecuador, Sierra Negra, and Wolf; five of them are still active which makes the island one of the most volcanically active places on earth.
In the afternoon, you will visit "Las Tintoreras", and you will take a short boat trip through the harbor of Isabela Island. After passing sea lions and pelicans that bathe in the sun on the fishing boats there, you will reach the small island of Tintoreras where you will take an easy walk through the bizarre lava landscape with its huge colonies of marine iguanas. Also, a colony of sea lions is local here and it is common to see white-tipped reef sharks resting in the water near the shore.
The views from here are something you will take with you for the rest of your life! The black, treacherous lava field, the emerald, green sea, the green mangroves, and the cloud-capped volcanoes of Isla Isabela create an afternoon backdrop you are not likely to ever forget.
