Day 01

22nd May 2020
  • Arrival at Manali (altitude: 2,050 m)

    Welcome to Manali, a high-altitude Himalayan town loved by adventurers worldwide, used a center for backpacking, skiing, paragliding, mountaineering, or rafting expeditions.

    Enjoy the day, exploring the area at your own pace.

    Accommodation: basic, 3* star resort.

Day 02

23rd May 2020
  • Introduction to rock climbing and rappelling (B)

    Highlights of the day
    • Presentation on the use of rock-climbing equipment, ropes and knots.
    • Rock climbing and rappelling techniques: introduction and practice.

    After breakfast, you will have a briefing on basic mountaineering, and an introduction to the use of rock-climbing equipment, including ropes and knots. You will then head to a nearby rock-climbing area to practice and learn the basics of various rappelling techniques.

    In the evening, you will return to the resort, where, after a brief rest, you will enjoy a short documentary on rock climbing.

Day 03

24th May 2020
  • Dhundi – Trek to Bakerthatch (B, L, D)

    Highlights of the day
    • Trekking towards Bakarthach: a beautiful meadow in the Himalayas.
    • Mountaineering terms and snow-craft equipment: meanings, secrets, uses, and techniques.

    Today, you will drive to Dhundi (approx. a 3-hour drive), the starting point of the Beas Kund Trail. Upon your arrival, you will begin your hike towards Bakarthach (3,352 m altitude): a high-altitude meadow on the way to Beas Kund, the source of the river Beas (“Kund” in the local language means “small lake”).
    Picnic lunch on the way to Bakarthach.

    After reaching the camp, you will relax with some tea and snacks before going for an acclimatization walk. The day will end with a presentation on the basic mountaineering terminology and an introduction to snow-craft equipment.

    Overnight in alpine tents (double occupancy).

Day 04

25th May 2020
  • Hike to Priyadarshini Gully – Snow-crafting session (B, L, D)

    Highlights of the day
    • Moving on snow and practicing various snow-craft techniques.
    • Introduction to ice-climbing equipment.

    Today after breakfast, you will hike to Priyadarshini Gully (approx. a 1-hour hike) for a snow-craft session. You will spend the day learning various techniques on how to walk and stop on snow.
    You will return to the camp for lunch and, later, you will have a briefing on glaciers and mountain weather and an introduction to ice-climbing equipment.

    Overnight in alpine tents (double occupancy).

Day 05

26th May 2020
  • Hike to the Beas Kund Glacier (B, L, D)

    Highlights of the day
    • Ice-climbing: lessons and practice.
    • Trek to the Beas Kund Glacier.

    Today you will hike to the Beas Kund Glacier (approx. a 1.5- hour hike), where you will learn and practice basic ice climbing techniques and crevasse rescue.

    You will return to the camp for lunch, and later you will participate in a few fun activities like bush crafting.

    Overnight in alpine tents (double occupancy).

Day 06

27th May 2020
  • Trek to Dhundi – Drive back to Manali (B, L, D)

    After breakfast, you will trek back to Dhundi, and, from there, drive to Manali, having lunch on the way. You will reach the hotel in the evening, having enough time to relax and enjoy a farewell dinner.

    Accommodation: basic, 3* star resort.

Day 07

28th May 2020
  • Departure (B)

    After breakfast, you depart for your journey back home.

    Getting to Manali:
    Note that your central arrival and departure point should be Delhi International Airport (DEL). From there, there are two ways of reaching Manali: either via a domestic flight or with a bus (Volvo Air-Conditioned).

    Approximate cost of a two-way domestic flight: approx. 300–500 USD per person (subject to change).
    Approximate cost of a two-way bus ticket: 50-70 USD per person (subject to change).
