Your trip will start in Kashmir. Upon your arrival at the Srinagar International Airport (SXR), you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah representative and will be transferred to Sonamarg - 2,800m (approx. 2-hour drive)

In the vale of Kashmir, 87 km northeast of Srinagar, lie the golden meadows or ‘Sonamarg’ (sona means gold and marg means meadow). A beautiful alpine valley, situated on the banks of the Sind River at an altitude of 2800 m, Sonamarg is located amidst a backdrop of exceptional scenic grandeur, perhaps unmatched anywhere else in the mountain world. Today, this buzzing little Himalayan township is not only a popular tourist spot but is also an excellent destination for numerous climbs and treks, for the aspiring climber and the keen trekker.

Enjoy the evening exploring the area at your own pace.

Highlights of the day

  • Presentation on the use of rock-climbing equipment, ropes, and knots.
  • Rock climbing and rappelling techniques: introduction and practice.

After breakfast, you will have a briefing on basic mountaineering and an introduction to the use of rock-climbing equipment, including ropes and knots. You will then head to a nearby rock climbing area to practice and learn the basics of various rappelling techniques.

In the evening, you will return to the resort.

  • Moving on snow and practicing various snow-craft techniques.
  • Introduction to ice-climbing equipment.

Today after breakfast, you will drive to Zero Point. (approx. 90 minutes drive).
Situated at an altitude of 3,549 m, Zeropoint is the point where the snow never melts. Even in the peak of summer, the snow at Zeropoint remains frozen. Zero Point Zojila is the mountain pass is a gateway to Ladakh, with over two entrance gates one from Kashmir and another from the Ladakh side. Zero Point is surrounded one side by Himalayan mountains from the other side is a deep valley that flows crystal clear water from the Sindh River.

Upon arrival, you will have an approx. a 1-hour hike for a snow-craft session. You will spend the day learning various techniques on how to walk and stop on snow. Later, you will have a briefing on glaciers and mountain weather and an introduction to ice-climbing equipment. In the evening you return to the resort.

Highlights of the day

  • Hike to the Thajwas Glacier.
  • Ice-climbing: lessons and practice.

Today you will hike to the Thajjwas Glacier (approx. a 2-3 hour hike), where you will learn and practice basic ice climbing techniques. After finishing the day, you drive towards the lodge and have a farewell dinner!

After breakfast, you will head to the Srinagar International Airport for your flight back home. (approx. 2-hour drive) Note: There will be only one private transfer arranged for the group. Timing will be advised in due course. Getting to Srinagar:
  • Note that your arrival and departure point will be Srinagar International Airport (SXR).
  • You can take an International flight up to Delhi or Mumbai and get a domestic flight to Srinagar airport. A ticketing agent shall be able to help you through flight bookings, incase you require any assistance with domestic flight bookings, please let us know. Approximate cost of a two-way domestic flight: approx. 200–250 USD per person (subject to change).
  • However, we highly recommend staying extra nights in Srinagar before or after a trip to explore the beauty of Kashmir. Extra hotel nights, transportation, and tours can be arranged at an additional cost.
