Itinerary Details

Note: Arrival in Amman must be before 09:00am. If not possible, please arrange to arrive on the night before (cost of the extra night’s accommodation is not included in the price; in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel to meet the rest of the team). Upon your arrival at Amman Airport, you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah representative. When the whole team assembles, you will be transferred to Wadi Mujid (approx. a 1-hour drive). (There can be only one group transfer on this day). Wadi Mujib, known in the Hebrew Bible as River Arnon, is formed by a river that enters the Dead Sea at 410 meters below sea level. Well equipped with life-jackets, you will maneuver your way through the canyon to explore its spectacular sandstone formations. You will hike, swim, abseil, and slide through the gorge, surrounded by beauty so wild that it will take your breath away. Zig-zag ropes along the way will offer you support where needed, as the trail takes you through some mild rapids and pools of calm water. An experienced guide will always be there to help you until you reach a beautiful waterfall where you can swim, relax, and enjoy the scenery before retracing your steps to the starting point. You will then drive to Petra (approx. a 2.5-hour drive). There you may explore Petra with a signature walk (2-3 hours), admiring the architectural marvels the ancient Nabateans created on the rocks, and noting the influences of various other cultures like the Roman, the Egyptian, and, later on, the Islamic one on the old city. In the evening, you will check-in in a hotel or camp and spend the rest of the day relaxing. Accommodation: Petra Moon Hotel (4 star), Petra or Seven Wonders campsite in Wadi Musa (or similar).
After an early breakfast, you will embark on a hiking adventure on the ancient trails surrounding the famed capital of the Nabateans (a total distance of 12.4 km), exploring the historical site of Petra via the “back route”. This will give you the opportunity to discover the city’s rich history and culture in a truly authentic way, staying away from the crowds. The hike starts from an area called Little Petra; on the way, you will pass through narrow goat trails and stony paths, making your way to Ad Deir or the ‘Monastery’, admiring the beauty of the carved sandstones. You will then climb down approximately 900 steps to reach the world-famous Treasury, before continuing to the visitors’ center. Lunch box provided. Hiking time: approx. 6-8 hours depending on route taken. After lunch, you will drive to Wadi Rum (approx. a 2-hour drive). You will rest for the rest of the day, and in the evening, you will taste the traditional Zarb – a delicious Bedouin treat – before sleeping under the stars. Accommodation: Magic campsite or similar with all modern facilities (bed, electricity, modern bathrooms, running water).
Early in the morning, you will drive to Umm Al Dami, and begin your hike at around 7 am. The trail is of moderate difficulty; the path starts from the foot of the mountain, and it takes 3-4 hours to reach the top. At the summit, you will enjoy panoramic views of the vast rocky Jordanian mountains up to northern Saudi Arabia. You will even spot a border crossing far below. Note: This hike contains a few sections where you may need to use your hands for balance to ascend and/or descend. Hiking details: Hiking duration: approx. 3-4 hrs. Elevation gain: 1,854 m. Enjoy the rest of the day at the camp, relaxing and enjoying the serenity of the Wadi. Early in the morning, you will go for a camel ride to marvel at the sunrise and explore the canyons of Wadi Rum. After breakfast, you will relax a bit before checking out and heading back to Amman (approx. a 3-4-hour drive). Depending on your departure details, you will have a few hours for shopping, resting, or exploring the city on your own, and afterwards you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home. Note: Recommended departure flights to be after 6pm.
