Detailed Itinerary

Day 01

21st July 2020
  • Arrival at Ulaanbaatar

    Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah representative at the airport, and you will be transferred to the hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

    Accommodation: Holiday Inn hotel or similar.

Day 02

22nd July 2020
  • Flight to Gobi Town / Hike in the Yoliin Am Gorge / Khavtsgait Petroglyph (B,L, D)

    After breakfast, you will catch an early morning flight to Gobi town.
    Upon arrival, you will head to Gurvan Saikhan Mountain for an invigorating hike in the Yoliin Am gorge (otherwise known as The Valley of the Vultures), where you will spend 2-3-hours traversing the narrow path while observing its unique flora and fauna.Although the area, as part of the Gobi Desert, sees little rain per year, Yoliin Am is known for its deep ice field which is of considerable size, especially in the winter. In the past, the ice lasted throughout the year, but now, given the global warming effects, it disappears by the end of the summer. Before exiting the park, you may also visit the natural history museum for more information about the vibrant ecosystem of the region.

    You will later proceed to the Dream Gobi lodge where you will stay for the next two nights.
    After lunch, you will visit the Khavtsgait Petroglyph: a group of rock paintings dating to 8000 – 4000BC. There, you will admire ancient drawings of wild animals such as Big Horn sheep, Ibex, wolfs, as well as horse riders, ox cards, mesmerizing at the artistic talent of these prehistoric societies.

Day 03

23rd July 2020
  • Bayanzag: The Flaming Cliffs (B, L, D)

    After breakfast at the lodge, you will drive to Bayanzag, also known as “the Flaming Cliffs” because of the beautiful red and orange color of the sandstone cliffs that becomes especially vibrant at sunset.
    Bayanzag is also famous as the region that has yielded some of the most exciting fossil finds, including the first dinosaur eggs.
    The area is vast, and you will send a few hours hiking and exploring it, before reaching the ger of a local family where you will rest for a while, getting acquainted with the nomadic lifestyle in this part of the world.
    In the afternoon, you will head back to Dream Gobi lodge to enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 04

24th July 2020
  • The Gobi – Ulaanbaatar (B)

    After breakfast, you will catch a flight to Ulaanbaatar and, from there, you can either board your international flight or continue with your exploration of Mongolia.
