Detailed Itinerary

Day 01

2nd Aug 19
  • Arrival at Lima

    Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by a Rahhalah representative who will take you to the hotel (located in Miraflores, the most beautiful and safest area of Lima, facing the Pacific Ocean). You will relax for the rest of the day, exploring the city at your own pace.


    Overnight in Lima at Casa Andina Select Miraflores – Superior Room or similar.
    *Lima city is located at an altitude of 80 meters (262 feet) above sea level (I think this is unnecessary information).

Day 02

3rd Aug 19
  • Exploring Lima (B, D)

    After breakfast, you will embark on an exploration of the capital city of Peru. You will start with a short visit to a local farmers’ market where you will learn about various Peruvian fruits, the famous potatoes, local vegetables, fish and other ingredients used in the local cuisine.
    Afterwards, you will be driven to the City of the Kings to explore its beautiful monuments, including numerous colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies, central Plazas like San Martin and Plaza de Armas, the baroque cathedral, the Governors’ Palace, the Archbishop's Palace with its bigwood-carved balconies, and the convent of San Francisco: home to the largest collection of religious art in the Americas. Underneath the convent,there isa vast network of catacombs that served as a cemetery during the colonial period.
    The tour will end with a visit to the beautiful olive tree park and the “Park of Love” where you will enjoy stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.
    The rest of the afternoon will be relaxing, as you explore the parks and markets ofMiraflores, before meeting for the welcome dinner in a Peruvian restaurant.
    Note: for your Amazon adventure starting the next day, you will be required to pack in a duffel bag or a suitcase only the clothes you will need during the next three days, including a daypack with mosquito spray, sunblock, a water bottle, a raincoat or rain poncho, sunglasses, sun hat and personal medication (if needed). The rest of your things will be stored in the Amazon Lodge in Puerto Maldonado.

Day 03

  • Flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado- Amazon (B, L, D)

    After an early breakfast, you will be driven to the Lima airport to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado.
    At Puerto Maldonado, you will be welcomed by the local Rahhalah guide who will take you to the Refugio Amazonas Lodge office where you will register, leave the excess luggage in a safe deposit and then depart for the Tambopata River Port (inInfierno), to take the boat to the Refugio Amazonas Lodge, located inside Tambopata Reserve.During your boat trip, you will enjoy a box lunch.
    Estimated boat-ride time: 2.5 hrs.
    Upon arrival at Refugio Amazonas, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you on important navigation and security tips.
    Please note that your guide will always provide you with any necessary information prior to every excursion. Your itinerary may be modified due to weather conditions that may affect access to certain areas.
    After dinner, you will enjoy a caiman search, walking by the river’s edge, scanning the banks with headlamps and flashlights to catch the red gleams of reflection on caiman eyes.

Day 04

  • Oxbow Lake - Canopy Tower - Ethnobotanical Tour(B, L, D)

    After breakfast, you will paddle around the lake on a canoe or catamaran, looking for lakeside wildlife such as hoatzin, caiman, and horned screamers, hoping to see otters and macaws as well.
    A thirty-minute walk from the Refugio Amazonas leads to the 25-meter scaffolding canopy tower. The tower has been built on high ground, enhancing thus your view of the rainforest forest up until the Tambopata National Reserve. From there you will see toucans, macaws and raptors.
    After lunch, you will visit a farm owned and managed by Don Manuel from the community of Condenado. He grows a variety of popular and exotic Amazon crops.
    Late in the afternoon, you will enjoy an ethnobotanical tour packed with interesting information about the variety of plants and trees (like Ajo-Sacha, Yuca de Venado, Uña de Gato, Charcot-Sacha, Para-Para, to name but a few) that are used by the local population for medicinal purposes.
    After dinner, there will be a presentation about ecotourism projects in the Tambopata National Reserve.

Day 05

  • Boat ride from Refugio Amazonas to Puerto Maldonado city / Flight to Cusco (B)

    After breakfast, you will head to the airport of Puerto Maldonado city to fly to Cusco (after retrieving your luggage from the Refugio Amazonas Lodge).
    At Cusco airport, you will be greeted by your new Rahhalah guides and will be transferred to your hotel.
    Enjoy the rest of the afternoon, relaxing, acclimatizing, and exploring Cusco at your own pace.

    *Cusco is located at an altitude of 3,385 meters (11,105 feet) above sea level.

Day 06

  • Exploring Cusco (B)

    After a relaxing morning, you will enjoy a guided tour around Cusco (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), visiting its most remarkable landmarks. Yourjourneywill start with a stroll around the main attractions of the ancient Inca capital: its main square known as Plaza de Armas, and the 16th-century Cathedral that boasts an impressive collection of more than 400 paintings from the Cusco art school dating to the 16th and 17th century.
    The tour includes a visit to the most impressive of the Inca temples:Koricancha, known as the Temple of the Sun. During the Inca times, the walls of this temple were lined with sheets of solid gold, and its courtyard was decorated with golden statues and ornaments.You will finish with a visit to the Santo Domingo Church built by the Spanish colonists, before moving outside the city for an exploration of a series of other important Inca monuments.
    First, you will head to Sacsayhuaman: an amazing Inca fortress whose main walls are perfectly fitted, built with massive stones. You will learn more about the Incas’ secrets, before continuing to Qenko ,Puca Pucara (an Inca lodging site), and Tambo Machay (known as the Baths of the Inca).
    Note: for your trip to the sacred valley and Machu Picchu starting the next day, you should only pack what you will need during the next few days, while the rest of your luggage will remain stored in the hotel.

Day 07

  • Whitewater rafting on the Urubamba River/Horseback riding Adventure in the sacred valley (B, L)

    After breakfast, you will be driven to Pachar village: the starting point of your whitewater rafting adventure on the Urubamba River.
    Upon arrival, all participants will be given a safety briefing by the guide, including paddling commands, capsize drills, and actions when overboard. Participants will be provided with helmets, wetsuits, splash jackets and a personal flotation device.
    The rafting adventure will start on tranquil waters surrounded by beautiful mountains and archaeological remains, before heading to Ollantaytambo and its amazing Inca terraces. On the way, you will enjoy class II-III rapids, and you will finish by “El Resbaladero” (“the slide”), a great class III rapid that includes waves and small whirlpools. You will end by the Cachiccata community located a few minutes away from the Ollantaytambo village.
    In the afternoon (at around 14:00), you will go on a horseback riding adventure, enjoyingmagnificent views of the sacred valley surrounded by mountains, eucalyptus trees and small Quechua villages. The level of this activity is easy and safe.
    After your horseback riding tour, you will be driven to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.

Day 08

9th Aug 19
  • Pumamarka and Markaccocha (B, L)

    You will start the day with a walk that will allow you to appreciate the millenary culture of the Sacred Valley, passing by the archaeological sites of the Incas in Pumamarka and Markaccocha. During the walk, a family will share information about the local medicinal plants and their healing properties, as well as the wild flora and fauna. Additionally, you will be able to learn words in the Quechua language. When reaching the archaeological site of Marcaccocha, you will follow a ritual,accompanied by the traditional dance “wallata” and music, asking from the spirits permission to pass and protection. Finally, you will taste the traditional dish “pachamanca” (that is, alpaca meat, native potato, oca, año, vegetable salad and muña tea cookedon preheated stones), while you may also participate in traditional games like Sinkuy.

Day 09

  • Zip-lining in the Sacred Valley/Biking in the sacred valley (B)

    After breakfast, you will drive to Pachar village, the starting point of your zip-lining adventure.
    The Sacred Valley zip-line gives people of all ages the opportunity to fly over this magical and magnificent area in a safe and fun way. The zip line has 7 lines or cables, from 150mt to 700mt, for a total of 2800mt.
    You will start with a 30-40-minute hike, then you will go on a small via ferrata climb (four meters) so that you can get acquainted with climbing a ferrata route.
    Each line is different from the other so you will start with an easy and short one, and the circuit will allow you to upgrade on the way. You will enjoy a three-hour zip-lining adventure, before driving back to your hotel in Ollantaytamboto relax.
    In the afternoon you will embark on a biking adventure in the Sacred Valley (difficulty level: moderately easy.) The ride will start fromthe Cachiccata communityon a flat path with some short climbs and descents and easy obstacles. On the way, you will enjoy magnificent views of the Sacred Valley, surrounded by mountains and trees, while passing through small Quechua villages. After about one hour, you will reach the Sillkinpunta bridge, and from there, you will make your way back to the Cachiccata community. In the end, you will be driven back to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.

Day 10

  • Vista dome train journey from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu (B)

    After breakfast, you will be transferred to the train station to board the vista dome train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).
    Upon arrival at Machu Picchu train station, you will be welcomed by your hotel staff and escorted to your hotel. Free afternoon to explore Machu Picchu Pueblo at your own pace.
    Overnight in Aguas Calientes at Hatun Inti Classic – Standard Room or similar.

Day 11

12th Aug 19
  • Machu Picchu (B, L)

    After a very early breakfast, you will take the bus (a 25-minute ride) to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you will hike to Inti Punku (the Sun Gate) from where you will enjoy a fantastic view of the “lost city” of Machu Picchu.
    Estimated hiking distance: 2 miles/3 kilometers.
    Estimated hiking time: one hour (each way).


    After lunch, you will enjoy a guided tour around the most amazing and mysterious of all Inca Sites, learning about its history, who lived there, how it was discovered in modern times, and why the Spaniards never found it. You will get insights into the various features of the city, and then, you will have some free time to enjoy the ambience of the sacred site by yourself.
    Return toAguas Calientes with the bus.

Day 12

13th Aug 19
  • Train journey from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Ollantaytambo

    In the morning, you will board the train towards Ollantaytambo again and, upon your arrival there, you will be met by the Rahhalah representatives and driven to your hotel in Cusco.
    You will enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring Cusco at your own pace before meeting again all together for a farewell dinner.

Day 13

14th Aug 19
  • Flight from Cusco to Lima/ Departure (B)

    After an early breakfast, you will be taken to Cusco airport to board your flight to Lima city and, from there, you will take your flight back home.
    Note: it is recommended that your international departure flights should be after 6 pm.
