Itinerary Details

Upon your arrival at the airport of Irkutsk, you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah representative, and you will be transferred to the hotel.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, exploring one of the largest cities of Siberia at your own pace. Irkutsk was nicknamed “The Paris of Siberia”, and one can admire some of the old, beautiful wooden houses that still survive downtown. On the other hand, it was used as an exile destination for some of the most distinguished Russians in the early 19th century, and the center of bitter fighting during the civil war at the beginning of the 20th century.

Accommodation in Irkutsk: Marriott Hotel (4*) or similar.

After breakfast, you will check out from the hotel and head closer to the shoreline of Baikal Lake (1-hour drive). There, you will first visit the Taltsy Architectural and Ethnographic Museum: an open-air museum that looks like an old village and features numerous wooden houses brought from all over Siberia, including the traditional structures of the Buryat people.

You will then move to the Baikal Museum to learn more details about Lake Baikal, get acquainted with the local flora and fauna, meet the famous Baikal seals, and enjoy an interactive diving tour to the bottom of the lake.

After this spectacular exploration, you will hike to Chersky Stone: an observation platform from where you can marvel at panoramic views of the Lake, the Angara River and Shaman Rock(hiking time: 1.5 hours, altitude: 700 m).

You will end the day with a walk along the shores of Baikal, visiting the ancient wooden church ofSaint Nicolas, and spending some relaxing time at the fish and souvenir market.

After breakfast, you will head to the pier, from where you will take the ship or motorboat to the Circum-Baikal Railway: a historical railway, and one of the most picturesque sights around Lake Baikal.It includes 38 tunnels, 15 stone galleries, 3 concrete galleries, 248 bridges and viaducts, and 268 retaining walls, and, as such, is considered a marvel of engineering in Russia and the whole world.

You will spend the morning hiking on the railway (moderate difficulty; 12 km, 3-4 hrs), enjoying not only the details of this engineering construction but also stunning views of the Lake and the surrounding area.

In the evening, you will have dinner at a guest house before returning to Listvyanka for the night.

After breakfast, you will enjoy another spectacular trail that will allow you to connect even more with Lake Baikal. You will hike on the Big Baikal Trail down to Bolshie Koty village (moderate difficulty; 19 km; approx. 8 hrs).

In the 19th century, Bolshie Koty was a local gold rush center where more than 160 kg of gold was mined. Later a glass factory was founded, and today it has turned into an attractive tourist destination since, though not far from Irkutsk and Listvyanka, it remains secluded enough to preserve its natural surroundings.

On the way, you will enjoy a picnic lunch, while, upon arrival, you will board the boat back to Irkutsk.

After breakfast, you will go for a 3-4-hour exploration of Irkutsk.

The tour includes a trip around the Lower embankment, a visit at Spassky church (the only, still-standing building of Irkutsk Kremlin), and the Znamensky Cathedral (behind whose walls there is the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "The Omen", and the relics of the first bishop of Irkutsk, and Nerchinsk Innocent Kulchytsky).Also, you will get acquainted with Karl Marx Street, where you can admire unique buildings of the 19th and 20th century. Finally, you will pass by Gagarin Boulevard, the Alexander III monument, the White House, the NationalHistory Museum, and Quarter 130, whose ambience pleasantly combines the past with the present.

After lunch, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
