Day 02

6th July 19
  • Ammarnäs- Boat ride and trekking (B, L,D)

We have breakfast in the morning and then we drive about 15 minutes to a very beautiful lake. Here we are met by our guide for the trekking days – Micke Vinka- (indigenous), he greets us and start to introduce us to the world of the Sami.

Micke is a local Sami reindeer herder with enormous heart (as do the rest of the family that you might meet). He also keeps the sami traditions alive and is very good at telling the stories in a very interesting way. The history, magic, religion and traditional wisdom. He works with tourism, rein deer herding and also conservational work for the government, especially around the arctic fox. He knows his ancestors paths and spend most of his days on the trek in the mountains or working with his beautiful”farm” geunja. This makes him an excellent host for your stay In Sweden.

Life jackets are provided and we are welcomed into his beautiful wooden boat. We ride the boat over the lake and through a smaller passage, more like a stream into a smaller lake. This area offer stunning views. During the ride, (if the weather is nice) we stop the boat and listen to more stories and sami wisdom. Opportunity to stop by at Geunja, Micke’s home that is situated by the beach in this remote area. Here is also a beautiful delta with lots of wildlife to explore with the boat.

During trekking we will enjoy great views, we will learn about traditional medicinal and schamanic herbs and also how these were used in traditional cooking. If it is the day for Arctic Fox, Micke informs about this curious creature and the conservational projects going on in the area. We will walk to one of the dens, and with luck we can even see it. The length of the trek and the paths used is decided by Micke to be in sync with group abilities and wishes.

After the trek Micke drives us back to the shore again and we return to the lodge for dinner.
