Overview

Mount Ararat is a snow-capped, dormant volcanic cone and the highest mountain in Turkey (5,137m). Its summit is located 16 kms west of Iran and 32kms south of the Armenian border. Biblical accounts narrate that this is the place where Noah's Ark came to rest. The climbing season is from June to September (July and August are the best months).

Itinerary Details

Day 1 (21st July 2023): Arrival at Agri or Igdir (D)

Upon your arrival at the airport of Agri or Igdir , you will be welcomed by a Rahhalah representative and transferred to your hotel in Igdir, where you will meet with your mountain guide who will brief you about the next days. Dinner in a local restaurant. Note: one group airport transfer is arranged from Agri. Additional transfers can be arranged at extra cost.

Day 2 (22nd July 2023): Camp 1 (B, L, D)

After breakfast, you will be transferred with a minibus to Dogubayazit and then to the Cevirme Village (altitude: 2200 m). Then, you will hike to the Yesil Yayala Base Camp (elevation: 3200 m.), while the equipment will be transferred by pack animals. You should expect to reach the campsite within 3.5-5 hours of hiking, depending on the pace of the group. At the camp, you will relax with hot tea and then enjoy a well-earned meal. Overnight in tents.

Day 3 (23rd July 2023): Acclimatization (B, L, D)

After breakfast, you will go for an acclimatization hike up to Camp 2 (altitude: 4200 m.), and you will return to Camp 1 (3200 m) for the night. Trekking time: 6-7 hours. Dinner and next overnight at Camp 1.

Day 4 (24th July 2023): Camp 2 (B, L, D)

After breakfast, you will hike again to Camp 2 (at 4200 m.) while all equipment will be transferred by pack animals. At the camp, you will have an early dinner as you will start your summit hike at 2am the next morning. Hiking time: 3.5-4.5 hours. Overnight at Camp 2.

Day 5 (25th July 2023): Summit Day (B, L)

This will be a long day as you will start hiking very early in the morning (1 or 2 a.m.). After 5-7 hours, you will reach the summit of Mount Ararat at 5,137 meters. Not that, depending on snow conditions, crampons may be needed for the last 200-300 meters. Afterwards, you will return to Camp 2 at 4200 m (2-3 hours of hiking), where you will rest, have lunch, and pack for gear, before descending to Camp 1. For those group members who are interested, there is an option to ride on horse from Camp 1 to the village. Cost of this is not included in the regular price of the trip and it is additional cost paid directly. Dinner and overnight at the campsite. Note: There is also option that the group can stay at Camp 2 for overnight if members are tired.

Day 6 (26th July 2023 ): Return to Igdir (B, D)

Breakfast at the campsite. Then we will pack our equipment and descent to the point close to Cevirme village, where our driver will wait for us. We will return to Igdir to our hotel. Drive back to Igdir. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at the hotel in Igdir.

Day 7 (27th July 2023 ): Departure from Agri or Igdir (B)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport in Agri or Igdir. Note: one group airport transfer is arranged to the airport in Agri. Additional transfers can be arranged at extra cost.

This cost is based on Double Occupancy. Single Supplement cost amounts to 350 USD per person.

The above cost is valid for a group of min 4 travelers. Rahhalah reserves the right to change the price if the trip runs with a smaller group.

One group transfer from and to the airport in Agri (upon arrival and departure).
Group transfer from Dogubayazit to Mount Ararat and back.
A professional local, English-speaking guide.
Pack animals for the equipment’s transportation on the mountain.
2 nights Hotel accommodation at Tehran Boutique hotel, Dogubayazit (double occupancy).
Dinner on the first and last day (Day 1, and Day 6).
All meals and soft drinks during the climb with cooking service.
Sleeping mattresses and one tent for every 2 people.
Climbing permits.

The Price Excludes:

International and domestic flights.

Visa fees.
Travel insurance.
Personal climbing equipment.
Beverages.
Cost due to an early descent.
Horses from Camp 1 to Cevirme village if needed.

PCR test if required.

Important: The itinerary and schedule are subject to change due to weather, road challenges or operating conditions. At any moment, the guide has the RIGHT to change the program for the safety and convenience of the travelers.

Also, the trip's price does not cover expenses that may occur due to conditions beyond Rahhalah's control (force majeure). Such cases include but are not limited to extreme weather conditions, flight cancellations or delays, and natural phenomena (earthquakes, volcano eruptions, hurricanes, etc.). We, the Rahhalah team, both in our HQ and on the ground, will do our best to assist you with alternative arrangements (like new accommodation and/or transportation arrangements, revised itinerary and activities etc.), but ALL NEW COSTS incurred because of force majeure are to be covered by the traveler.

We strongly recommend that, before your departure, you purchase travel insurance that covers trip cancellation costs, loss of baggage or personal items, medical emergencies, and other unexpected circumstances that cannot be controlled by Rahhalah or any traveler.
