Zed Al- Refai -Rahhalah's Partner, climbing and adventure consultant and the first Arab to scale Mount Everest, is among nine regional Olympic torchbearers chosen, it was announced.
The nine inspirational individuals will take part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry the Olympic flame in the London 2012 Olympic torch relay in the UK, beginning the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Zed achieved recognition amongst the mountain climbing community by being the first Arab to scale Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.
By 2004, Zed had scaled the seven highest summits in all seven continents, including Mount Everest making him the 46th person in the world to do so. Zed is also an advocate for environment and social causes. He works relentlessly in spreading awareness for the environment and protecting the planet against global warming.
Commenting on the torchbearer announcement in a press release, Zed Al-Refai said, “I was humbled to find out that the accomplishments I achieved were recognized locally and abroad. I hope to do justice to Samsung and my community as I carry the Olympic flame,” he added.
